One of our loyal customers contacted us recently and explained his supercharger tensioner had completely broken, when we saw the above picture we quickly realised there was indeed no repairing that, it had completely blown apart.
We visited his vessel and changed the broken tensioner for a brand new one and belt, whilst at the same time giving him an oil and filter service plus a raw water descale to both engines.
Safe to say the new belt and tensioner had reduced the smoke emissions on cold start and is now running beautifully, together with fresh engine oil and filters plus perfectly clean raw water passages.

We completed a full engine service on this pair of Volvo penta d3-220 engines for our customer, including a full coolant flush as it was due its first change.
We noticed there was light corrosion on the water pumps where seawater has obviously once been leaking, so we brushed and painted these in.
Completed with a full diagnostic plug in and report with a engine room clean to complement.

The customer of this yanmar marine engine reported a melted exhaust and hose, we went out to find the cause and found the cooling passages completely blocked with calcium, we also found his only safeguard from the overheat, a temperature sender was broken and not working.
We have fitted a brand new water lock, exhaust pipe and temperature sender, changed the stuck thermostat and flushed the system with descaler, the engine now operating in the safe temperature zone.
Safe to say the customer was pleased they had not damaged the cylinder head. If it wasn't for their quick reaction with the melted exhaust, it would have been way more involved.

One of our loyal Customers boat was considerably down on power with white smoking.
Having installed boost pressure gauges to both engines we realised they both were well under the specified pressure, we removed the turbochargers and elbows from both engines to see they were in need of overhaul, the elbow sleeve also leaking water slowly back into the turbo.
We reconditioned the turbo with a specialist stainless sleeve insert to prevent the typical kad engine wear on the exhaust side, coupled with stainless steel exhaust elbows, reinstalled them to the engines.
After undertaking a sea trial the customer was amazed at how much power was now restored to the vessel, the exact words I will not repeat here 😜

EngineTek Marine just fitted a new stainless steel exhaust to a well-maintained Volvo Penta MD2030. While troubleshooting a reduced power issue and heavy smoke, we discovered a narrowed internal passage and significant corrosion where water meets gas. After removing the old iron elbow, including cutting off a stubborn nut, we cleaned the area and installed a fresh gasket and elbow with new retaining bolts.

Our customer contacted us to express their concern about the boat making a heavy vibration whilst gear was selected, we diagnosed this to be the distinctive sound of a worn cutless bearing, upon lifting the vessel it was clear to see that was indeed the case.
We removed the propeller from the shaft and assembled our specialist British made cutless bearing removal tool, which enables us to remove the bearing and insert a new one, with the shaft in place, and no need to disconnect the shaft from the gearbox whilst keeping the stress away from the vulnerable P Bracket.
Once it was installed the play had completely gone.

KAD300, The temperature gauge was rising very slowly, even at wide open throttle it only got to 40°c.
We tested the health of the gauge to find it was in order, whilst underway, we put the thermal imaging camera over it to ensure it was A) getting up to the correct temperatures but B) to ensure it was not overheating.
We performed a test on the sender to prove that was the culprit, it was going out of specification.
We will in due course be changing the sender and checking / changing the thermostats to ensure the cooling system is running optimally.

Our customer called us to report that their starboard Volvo penta D3-190 diesel engine was not firing up correctly, that there were some faults on the EVC electrical system, they also quickly realised the bilge had taken on around 85 litres of diesel 🙈
We immediately responded and found the fault which was typically at the rear of the engine, a fuel line had blown from the high pressure pump, this was causing electrical glitches with the common rail system and the root cause of all that wasted liquid gold.
After replacing the faulty fuel line, we plugged our diagnostic scanner into the very well hidden Helm control units, quickly read and cleared the now non existent faults, followed by a deep clean of that engine bay.
Safe to say you could eat your sandwiches from that engine room now.

We were called to this TAMD40 with reports it was dumping all of its water to the bilge, upon inspection it was really hard to actually find the leak, we ended up stripping away the heat exchanger and the oil cooler suspecting a core plug, once completely stripped back and giving us about a foot of room to work, we found a core plug had given way in the head.
We quickly cleaned and replaced the affected part, re installed the oil cooler and heat exchanger with all new sealing rings and gaskets, pressure tested to prove it was indeed solved. Another happy customer.
We often come across jobs that should be pretty straight forward, but as proved here, what should have taken a hour or two at most, the access made this job take a whole day!! That also included a bilge clean as if we were never there.

Our customers sailing boats gland was looking a little worse for wear, the rubber was breaking up and going sticky.
We removed the prop shaft and removed the whole stern seal, cleaned everything up, repacked the graphite seal, replaced the rubber tubing, re fitted all components and refilled the grease pump.

Another set of under pressure Volvo penta KAD injectors removed, stripped, cleaned, re pressurised and painted for our customer.
These injectors were opening at nearly 3000psi, that's 700-800 less than spec, also by cleaning the injectors properly, we can be sure the whole injector is immaculately clean, we re shimmed them, checked for leakage and spray pattern.

We all know how much time it can take to repair broken screws!!
Remember, change your pump screws every year or so, they are really cheap, DO NOT overtighten them using a socket.
We attempted to remove a pump plate to change the impeller, but the previous engineer overtightened them meaning some just broke off when attempting to remove them.
We couldn't work on this pump in situ due to the lack of space to the front of the engine, so we had to remove it and drill them out.
If you were in an emergency at sea, you wouldn't want to be faced with this issue for such a simple maintenance job.

Our customer reported his control panel kept throwing fault codes and preventing the engine from starting.
After diagnosing the engine we found absolutely no issues at all, we quickly traced it to be an electrical fault.
We managed to pinpoint the area of fault and upon closer inspection we found many connections corroded, loose or broke, the copper had blackened from water.
We cut away all the old corroded terminals, split the main data line at the point of fault and soldered each joint and heat shrink protected. We installed all joints inside a IP68 rated box.
Engine now fully operational and the electronic data system working as it should.
